Undergraduate Scholarship Opportunities
Chemistry offers scholarships to outstanding and deserving students, and they are all linked through the MSU common scholarship application.

We encourage all students who want to be considered to fill out the General University scholarship application and also the Arts & Sciences conditional application. Once completed, it will automatically submit your application for all scholarships for which you are eligible.
- The deadline for submitting scholarship applications for entering freshman students is December 1st.
- The deadline for returning students is March 1st.
Each available scholarship is listed below.
Hach Scientific Teaching Scholarship ($10,000)
Candidates must be willing to commit to the teaching profession upon graduation. These awards may be made to incoming freshmen. Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are full-time chemistry majors with a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated need. The award will be paid in increments of $5,000 for 2 semesters and may be renewed for up to four years provided the awardee meets scholarship criteria.
Don G. Wright Memorial Scholarship ($1,250/semester)
Candidates must be a full-time freshman, sophomore, or junior college transfer and have demonstrated financial need. Awardee must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain a full-time student majoring in chemistry.
L.C. Behr Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
Candidates must be a full-time chemistry major having demonstrated academic achievement and have a minimum 3.0 GPA in chemistry coursework. Scholarship awarded in increments of $500 for 2 semesters.
Ian Chen Endowed Scholarship ($1,000)
Candidates must be a full-time chemistry major having demonstrated academic achievement and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Scholarship awarded in increments of $500 for 2 semesters.
Donald W. Emerich Endowed Scholarship ($1,000)
Candidates must be a full-time chemistry major having demonstrated academic achievement and have a minimum 3.0 GPA in chemistry coursework. Scholarship awarded in increments of $500 for 2 semesters.
Harry C. and Mary Virginia Simrall Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
Candidates must be a full-time chemistry major having demonstrated academic achievement and have a minimum 3.0 GPA in chemistry coursework. Scholarship awarded in increments of $500 for 2 semesters.
Mary Virginia Simrall Endowed Undergraduate Research Scholarship ($1,000)
Candidates for this scholarship must be a chemistry major with a minimum 2.5 GPA and be actively involved in an original research project with a chemistry faculty member. The research is expected to result in the publication of the work in a scientific journal and to be presented by the student at a national research conference.
David E. Wigley Annual Scholarship ($1,000)
Candidates must be a full-time chemistry major having demonstrated academic achievement and have a minimum 3.0 GPA in chemistry coursework. Scholarship awarded in increments of $500 for 2 semesters.
Chemistry Annual Scholarship ($500-$1,000)
Candidates must be a full-time chemistry major with a minimum 3.0 GPA in chemistry coursework and have demonstrated academic achievement. Scholarship awarded in increments of $250 - $500 for 2 semesters.
Peeples Endowed Scholarship ($500)
Will be awarded after the accumulation of sufficient earnings. Awarded to a sophomore who has achieved a 3.0 QPA and is a full-time student majoring in chemistry.
